WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE FOR THE 57th ANNUAL CONVENTION
On here you'll find all the information you need on the venue, how to register, transport within Christchurch and other things to do while you're in Christchurch.
We look forward to seeing you at the convention!
Set on the Canterbury Plains, Christchurch is New Zealand’s garden city on the east coast of the South Island. Flat-bottomed punts glide on the Avon River, running through the city centre. On its banks are cycling paths, the green expanse of Hagley Park and the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Our city Otautahi is better now than ever; the vibrant inner city is an ever evolving mix of old and new with many changes. Explore the town and celebrate the classic icons that remain. Why not come and see for yourself, and enjoy the changing landscape and riverfront restaurants and cafes.
ST ANDREW'S COLLEGE
St Andrew’s College is a thriving, bustling school located in suburban Merivale, just five minutes by car from the centre of Christchurch. St Andrew’s College celebrated its centenary in 2017 and is one of the largest school campuses in Christchurch, with an extensive range of buildings and grounds stretching across 13 hectares.
St Andrew’s College has boarding facilities located right in the heart of the college campus. Accommodation for the convention is available across its three boarding houses.
The theme of the 57th annual convention is ‘Living Sober’ and is based on the AA publication “Living Sober” which includes the phrase “Anyone can get sober. We have all done it lots of times. The trick is to stay and to live sober”.
Christchurch has a great selection of meetings running every day. If you would like more information, to find out where they are, or would like a lift to get to one during your stay in Christchurch, please ask. Meetings are also listed at www.aa.org.nz.
But for most members of A.A., living sober is really living - a joyous experience. We much prefer it to the troubles we had with drinking.
